A group of UK academics are proposing to create an Open Library of the Humanities along the same lines as the Public Library of Science. The idea is to create an online, open-access archive of peer reviewed academic work in the arts, humanities and social sciences that will prevent the nasty publishers getting control of stuff. Although the modeul involves Article Processing Charges, these would be minimal and waived in cases where authors simply couldn’t pay. The organzation itself is non-profit and does all the stuff a publisher currently does, but at a fraction of the cost.
They are touting for support so if, like me, you are interested in backing this, drop them a line.
